in a funk

B’s recent postcard for a opera event. All the information goes in the bottom black area, but I filled it for now. I’m going to try and scan the sketches he drew for this because they’re just as interesting. He had several cool ideas for this project that didn’t make it in the final design.  Plus, I’m always interested in rough drafts and seeing other people’s though process.

I was in a funk a little today, so after wasted hours online and naps with Igby, I decided to just go for it and work on one of three canvases that have been lying around my room for a year. Since I haven’t painted for awhile, I used watercolors instead of oil. It allowed me to work quick and cover mistakes easily. The lips are way too puckered among other things, but it got me out of my funk. Mission accomplished.

Oh, I always leave the left eye until the end. I promise I’ll try to finish it and not paint hair over it like I did in high school. Yep…

I’m slowly trying to get everything in order. If you look in the top left hand corner, I got a great collection of driftwood and glass bottles that were passed down from the previous teachers.

I’m house/dog sitting for the next few days, and the girls love to swim! It is the cutest thing ever, except every time I pull up after a lap, they’re in my face with their toy, waiting for me to throw it again. It doesn’t matter where I am, they’ll be there when I finish.

This one is Sophie. Last night, she got a hold of BJ’s retainer with his tooth and ate it! I found the wires hanging from her hair, but no tooth(or toof if you pronounce it like me)! Ahh! Add this to cost of plane tickets, deposits, etc. that we have coming up.

igbyIgby at Galveston beach. She’s too scared to swim even when she sees Sophie and Maggie having the time of their lives.

do you realize

HILL STREET

You realize that life goes fast
It’s hard to make the good things last

Like B said, you never know when it’ll be the last time you see someone. We didn’t think it’ll be so soon and it took our breath away. We miss you, Deacon. RIP.

Last sunday we drove down to Galveston to spend time with some of our family friends. Bj and I took turns with the polaroid, which I think was exposed to x-rays from the Chicago airport screening even though they assured me that it won’t effect the film. This has happened before, but I kind of like the desaturated look. Click here for bigger pics.

We swam for a bit, spotted a portugese man o’ war, ate bbq, and went downtown to the strand to eat homemade icecream. It was really relaxing. Oh, and we tracked down a Fazoli on the way home. I love summer!

I’m not very good with small spaces. More room please!

Christopher Silas Neal in the recent 3×3.
Always good to have him close by for inspiration.

We booked the chapel we wanted! Now I’m at Rice working on back to school things while B works. My goal was to have the entire month for all 3 classes laid out by today, but it’s been more time consuming than I thought. It feels like a million years since I spent hours in a library. Ah, I miss it, especially the one at RISD-such a cool space. Is it weird to feel anxious and nervous for the school year to begin? I wonder when that feeling will go away.

We’re looking forward to collaborating on a zine with our Riley friends!
