Coming home

We came home last night from our trip to the Northwest where we spent the last 5 days visiting family on both sides, celebrating my cousin’s wedding, ringing in my 26th birthday with waffles and ice cream, indulging in lots of local food, and soaking in the gorgeous scenery (evergreens, actual mountains) during our drive between Seattle to Portland to Yakima and then back to Seattle. I can’t wait to go back! Our stay there also highlighted the fact that everything is sort of up in the air for us regarding career paths and plans. I have a feeling that this coming year will be very telling, but I’m excited and grateful that our trip kind of kicked me in the butt to start thinking about all these things.

I shot in film for the first time in a long while using a 35mm from our friend Ameet. But, as a backup, I also documented the trip with my iPhone and point-and-shoot. It’ll take some time to sort through them, so for now I’ll share my view outside the plane window. I don’t think I’ll ever lose my sense of awe at the views and the fact that we’re in the sky! (I know: get with the times, right?)

does the trick

all photos taken with iPhone + instagram

This morning, we headed to the East Side Farmer’s Market for the first time and picked up passion fruit sorbet, a box full of ripe peaches, and Indian food. We’re trying to be better at using everything we buy, since groceries seem to suck up a lot of our money and there’s a trip to Portland coming up very soon. Sometimes, Totinos pizza does the trick (so bad, but so gooood).

With the school year wrapping up and the multiple ridiculous bomb threats (3 days in a row!) that have disrupted any attempts to finish up lessons, it has been the craziest month at my job so far. One and a half more weeks and I’ll have less commutes and side projects can commence!

creative slump

Trying to stay inspired and creating everyday is hard. It is a constant struggle to break through the creative slump. I’ve spent long periods of time in front of the computer, overwhelmed by all the imagery.  And then I saw my sister’s illustrations ….

Which gave me a kick in the butt to pick up a pen. Whether it’s random doodles, rendering empty drink bottles, or working from photos off Photobooth, I need to start making it a routine to sketch!

gold glitter

Sending this little guy off. Made with remnant fabrics (The gold glitter dotted tulle is my favorite! I’ll be sad once it’s all gone) and glass beads.

birthday

Happy Birthday to my hubs. Miss ya & have fun at MoogFest.

I survived

Lula

I survived my third first day of school! Perhaps next year, I’ll remember to load up on cough drops and tea cause my throat is hurtin’. So happy to see familiar faces, not so happy about the huge zit that popped up (Something me and the kids can bond over?).

A few things that have made the day easier: a new haircut after almost a year, surprise back issues of Lula B ordered, a frozen lasagna warming up in the fridge from Trang, and hearing Eastbound & Down playing downstairs.

dress envy

Sometimes I say things like if I was going to get married again*… usually when I eat a really delicious piece of cake or see a nice dress. But what I really mean is if we were to get married again then …

This piece from Steven Alan would fall into the “this is what I would wear to our backyard reception in Yakima next September” category. But I will probably get some more wears out of my other dresses and add a cardigan or sweater. We’re super excited for our trip back to B’s hometown as well as spending a short bit of time in Seattle.
