I am on a shopping ban for one month with the exception of groceries, gas, and school related purchases. We just have too many bills, deposits, and traveling to do this month. AHH, but then I came across this again on jcrew.

Before I got engaged, I saw this dress and fell in love with it. Simple and elegant, and almost the opposite in terms of style of what I ended up buying. For our reception I already have an ao dai, but I would like  to find a dress to wear at the end of the night, especially if we end up going out together. Gotta be practical though.

erez-1My sister, Christine, ordered a bridesmaid dress from jcrew and it arrived today. It looks awesome on her. Plus, it has pockets so double yay!

While I’m on the topic of weddings, I love Cheri’s garden reception! It’s a dream. She also added more flag necklaces to her etsy shop.

completely smitten

I am completely smitten by these shots from Love Me Do! For me, this 1940s vintage wedding dress is by far the best gown I’ve seen. Ever. The details in the back and the delicate applique won me over right away, and I love the fact that you can move around freely in this piece. No corsets, waist pinchers, and ruffling attendants needed. {swoon}

The photographers did an awesome job of capturing pictures throughout the day that go along with the ethereal qualities of the gown. via c is for charmed

rainbows and composition paper

I’ve been playing around with packaging ideas and working on little presents to give our friends when we go to Chicago tomorrow. (!!!) From an economic standpoint (if I were to sell these later on), it doesn’t make sense to spend so much time on the labels because they’re going to get ripped off anyways. But I like personalizing them and it’s been fun to think up a variety of designs that fits each person–e.g., rainbows and composition paper for Mairead, a writer and wearer of bright colors. I hate throwing away scraps and magazines, so I’m glad these materials are getting a second life. If they don’t get used as labels, they can also serve as place cards, although I’m not sure how I feel about making 300+ for our reception. Eek.

I woke up early today to help our art supervisor hang up over 200 dog show pieces down at the Reliant Stadium. I heard some school districts refused to enter this year as a sign of protest. Supposedly, the judges were only giving high honors to artwork depicting pure breeds. Ridiculous. They also have a habit of picking super-realistic drawings, like of the Houston Livestock and Rodeo show, so I’m glad there was at least one winner who was a little more expressive. Personally, the younger kids’ drawings are more appealing than the high schoolers, but it’s kind of hard not to like kids’ art in the first place, right? Never been to a dog show but if it’s anything like Best in Show, I’m sure it’ll be a hoot.

Mike Perry Bandages from UO. I scored it at the bottom of the basket for 1.99!!! Now you can look stylish even when you’re hurt.

Anthropologie pillow.

Major plus: you can wash the covers easily. :) Did you know that, when we were younger, my mom put a plastic tarp underneath our eating table because we were so messy? It was much easier for her to shake the food off outside than to clean up the floor. Don’t we sound a little barbaric?  See, I didn’t like to eat meat when I was small, so I would strategically  throw it under other people’s seats and then offer to clean up after the meal. Or I would hide huge chunks of meat in plant pots. Muahaha.

chronicle_books journal_detail Chronicle Books journal. I love the color palette, and the inside pages have more pretty designs like: imperfect grids, polka dots, etc. In this case, I think it’s an owl done right. Just sayin’

dress_sneakSneak peak at my dress.

So I bought the first one I tried on. (I did try on 1 other after that.) I know that probably goes against all the “rules” but I wanted to get this step over with. Don’t get me wrong: it’s beautiful and my mom really likes it, too, but the more important things to me are planning activities, food, and CANDY. Also, when school starts up, I’d rather sleep in than drive around in the heat shopping for my dress. Now I need to find a good seamstress and that’ll be one huge thing I can check off my list.

thuy_momMom and baby sister, Thuy. Don’t they look cute?

Jury duty tomorrow!
